OMCT provides medical assistance with special attention to countries where torture has been committed, in cooperation with local organisations in the SOS-Torture Network and victim rehabilitation centres. Indeed, it is more effective, in terms of time and money, to treat victims in their own countries (conditions allowing) or in a neighbouring State, rather than transferring them to a Western country. Sometimes, however, the victim’s health requires his transfer to a developed country. In such cases, the decision is made based on a medical certificate in coordination with the NGO of the SOS-Torture Network that deposited or transmitted the request for assistance.
Among the various forms of medical assistance provided by OMCT, we can mention :
