Grants and Reporting Intern

The World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT) is seeking to recruit an intern as Junior Grants and ReportingIntern based in its Brussels Office (OMCT Europe).

The OMCT works with around 200 member organisations which constitute its SOS-Torture Network, to end torture, fight impunity and protect human rights defenders worldwide. Together, we make up the largest global group activelystanding up to torture. Helping local voices be heard, we support our vital partners in the field and provide directassistance to victims. Based in our Brussels office, the incumbent will work under the supervision of the Grants and Operations Coordinator and in close coordination with the Grants and Programme Officer of the Human Rights Defenders Programme and the Finance team. The incumbent will provide support and implement a variety of tasks relating to grants management and reporting with the guidance of experienced staff. This will be an excellent opportunity to work in an international NGO dedicated to human rights and learn about concrete support to human rightsdefenders and civil society organisations.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Grants Team in the daily work of administrative and financial management of direct assistance to human rights defenders at risk as well as of subgrants to local human rights organizations worldwide;
  • Assist the team with new grant applications, including the preparation of related documents and keepingdatabases up to date;
  • Ensuring that grant-related expenditures are properly tracked, and that relevant documentation aremaintained and recorded for all grants allocated:
    • o follow up of interim and final narrative and financial reports including:
      • ensuring timely submissions of reports by grantees;
      • assist grantees in the preparation and finalization of reports;
    • first verification of reports to monitor compliance with donors reporting requirements and eligibility under the supervision of Grants and Financial officers, follow-up with grantees to improve andfinalize reports when needed;
    • payments follow-up (admin process and justification documentation);
  • Maintain and organize documents and files related to the grants process on the server, and preparation ofdocuments for audit purposes;
  • Assist with the preparation of audits and narrative reports to OMCT donors.
  • Assist with any other task in support to OMCT Geneva and Brussels offices – depending on needs of theoffice and profile of the candidate.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • University degree, preferred in finance management or related field,
  • Experience in human rights organization and/or project management would be desirable, includingthrough internships,
  • A first experience in financial reporting or accounting would be an asset,
  • Excel literacy,
  • Excellent written and oral skills in two of the following languages (English, French or Spanish); knowledge inthe remaining language would be an asset,
  • Skills in the use of software applications, database management and secure communication an asset.

  • Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information.
  • Excellent organisational skills, detail oriented.
  • Ability to work under pressure to deadlines and to adapt to multidisciplinary work in a multiculturalteam.
  • Ability to engage with partners in different countries and working in difficult security environments.
  • Strong capacity for initiative and ability to work both autonomously and in a team.

DATES AND CONDITIONS

Starting date: September 2023

Duration: 6 months, which could be extended depending on funding Conditions: 300EUR per month allocation

The candidate needs to be based in Brussels and have a valid work permit.
