Areas of Work
The Association for Legal Defense, Documentation, and Memory for Nicaragua is a civil society organization that emerged in 2018 in response to human rights violations committed by the regime against civilians who demonstrated voluntarily and peacefully in April of that year. Since then, its mission has been to defend and promote the human rights of victims of repression in Nicaragua—especially political prisoners—through support for victims, documentation of human rights violations, public advocacy, national and international advocacy efforts, and the use of national and international justice mechanisms, with the aim of achieving justice, truth, and reparation for victims, and contributing to memory, as well as to the restoration of the rule of law and democracy in Nicaragua. In 2021, part of the team was forced into exile, and since 2023 the organization has been registered in Costa Rica.
