Coalition Ivoirienne des Défenseurs des Droits Humains (CIDDH)

Areas of Work

The Ivorian Coalition of Human Rights Defenders (CIDDH) is a grouping of non-governmental organizations dedicated to the protection of human rights. Established in September 2004, CIDDH was created to address the security challenges faced by human rights defenders in Côte d'Ivoire. Its mission is to promote and protect the rights of these defenders.

CIDDH provides assistance to defenders who are at risk, including support for internal and external relocation and legal assistance. The organization also works to strengthen the capacity of human rights defenders through training on human rights mechanisms, defender rights, and both physical and digital security. It actively raises awareness among defense and security forces, as well as local authorities, on the rights of defenders and the mechanisms for their protection. CIDDH monitors alleged violations of defenders' rights and conducts advocacy at national, regional, and international levels to ensure the protection of human rights defenders.
The Coalition has a team of lawyers to provide legal and judicial support to defenders whose cases are referred to them. CIDDH played a key role in the adoption of the 2014 law on the promotion and protection of human rights defenders in Côte d'Ivoire and the 2017 decree for its implementation.
