Areas of Work
CODESA is an independent Sahrawi organization working to defend and promote human rights in Western Sahara. CODESA’s primary activities include international campaigns, documentation of violations in collaboration with international NGOs, and engaging and intervening with UN bodies and human rights mechanisms. Recently, CODESA led an advocacy campaign aimed at establishing a permanent presence of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, to ensure the protection of Sahrawi civilians. CODESA also collaborates with Amnesty International, Front Line Defenders and other partners to document cases of torture, arbitrary detention and other serious human rights violations committed against Sahrawi defenders.
