Sudan: harassment of Sandra Kadouda, 17 years, the daughter of Prof. Kadouda

Sudan: Sandra Kadouda kidnapped Case SDN 081199.1.CC Follow-up to Case SDN 081199.CC CHILD CONCERN Geneva , 9th May 2000. The International Secretariat of OMCT requests your URGENT intervention in the following situation in Sudan. New Information The International Secretariat of OMCT has received information from the Sudanese Victims of Torture Group (SVTG) a member of the OMCT network, of the harassment of Sandra Kadouda, 17 years, in connection with the activities of her father, Professor Farouq Kadouda, a prominent political leader and University lecturer. According to the information received, she was kidnapped on 29th April 2000 on her way to secondary school by security members who stopped her taxi, took her to an unknown destination subjecting her to questions regarding her father’s activities. She was released the following day exhausted. Previously, in November 1999, Sandra Kadouda was beaten until unconscious when armed men raided her home. Her beating was a last warning, by the men, to her father, Professor Farouq Kadouda. Preceding this abduction, Mr. Kadouda had received a number of phone calls of harassment and had complained to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice. Her father, Professor Farouq Kadouda is a prominent political leader and University lecturer at Alahlia and leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Sudan and official spokesman for the Sudanese Communist Party (SCP) and has Action requested Please write to the authorities of Sudan urging them to i. guarantee the physical and psychological integrity of Sandra Kadouda; ii. carry out a thorough and impartial investigation into the abduction of Sandra Kadouda and bring those responsible to trial and apply the penal, civil, and/or administrative sanctions provided by law in accordance with international human rights standards; iii. put an end to the harassment of Professor Kadouda and members of his family and ensure that such harassment is investigated adequately; iv. ensure in all circumstances respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms in accordance with international human rights standards.
