Women's Day 2023: Celebrating women human rights defenders - heroes of modern times

  • Event Date: 08.03.23
  • Event Time: 17:30:00
  • Event Location: Palais Eynard, Rue de la Croix-Rouge 4, 1204 Genève

On the occasion of International Women's Day, the World organisation against torture (OMCT) organises, with the support of the City of Geneva, a unique event to recognise and celebrate women human rights defenders. Actresses of change and voices of hope, these women play a fundamental role in their communities throughout the world and contribute to creating more just and egalitarian societies.

Five inspiring women activists from Iran, Russia, Chad, Colombia and Tunisia will come to share their stories of engagement.

To present and lead the discussion, we will count on the participation of Mrs. Ruth Dreifuss, the first woman President of the Swiss Confederation (1998), and Ms. Hina Jilani, lawyer of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and President of the OMCT. The discussions will be held in French and English with simultaneous translation.

The evening will continue with a concert by the Berthollet violinist sisters, and will end with a cocktail offered by the city of Geneva. All profits will be donated to the OMCT.

Free registration. Seats are limited. To register, please send an email to events@omct.org indicating the number of seats you would like to reserve, your name and telephone number.

This event is also an opportunity for us to appeal for public generosity. Through our vast network of members and partners, the OMCT supports local initiatives of women human rights defenders and contributes to creating a world in which women and girls are free from violence and abuse. Today, we wish to strengthen our actions in this field and we need your financial support for this fundamental cause.

MAKE A DONATION

Making a donation to the OMCT contributes to the work of thousands of women around the world who play an essential role in defending the rights of all of us and in protecting the most disadvantaged. Through their courage and commitment, women human rights defenders bring us closer to a world of justice and equality. Your support is essential.
