Our Coalitions

OMCT works hand in hand with member organisations of the global SOS-Torture Network. In addition to this key collaboration, OMCT is part of several coalitions, including the United Against Torture Consortium (UATC), ProtectDefenders.eu (PD.EU), and the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders.

Together, these partnerships ensure that no defender or victim stands alone. They allow us to multiply the reach and impact of our work: combining expertise, pooling resources, and building the collective pressure that no single actor could generate alone. They embody our core conviction that only a strong, globally connected anti-torture movement can turn the tide.

The United Against Torture Consortium (UATC)

The United Against Torture Consortium brings together OMCT alongside APT, FIACAT, IRCT, OMEGA and REDRESS — six organisations united in their commitment to eradicating torture. The Consortium channels EU funding into the capacity building of local actors, movement building, advocacy, victim support, accountability work, and crisis response.

The Consortium demonstrates how organisations with complementary mandates — covering prevention, protection, accountability, and rehabilitation — can join forces to generate a greater systemic impact.

ProtectDefenders.eu (PD.EU)

ProtectDefenders.eu is the European Union Human Rights Defenders mechanism, led by a consortium of 12 NGOs. Operating a permanent, round-the-clock helpdesk, it provides urgent support to defenders in danger — including emergency grants, temporary relocation, and organisational strengthening for local groups in hostile contexts. OMCT participates in this consortium, contributing its global network and anti-torture expertise to ensure that defenders targeted for their work receive timely and effective protection.

The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders

Launched in 1997 by OMCT and the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), the Observatory is a collaboration built on both organisations' global networks. Its strategy encompasses prevention and early warning, direct assistance to defenders at risk, capacity building, and advocacy at the United Nations and regional bodies across Africa, the Americas, and Europe.
