Joint Submission on the United Arab Emirates to the 71st Session of the UN Committee Against Torture

In April 2022, the United Nations Committee against Torture (UNCAT) will review the United Arab Emirates. The review was initially planned for April 2021, but had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Ahead of the review, the OMCT and three other civil society organisations submitted an alternative report to the UNCAT. Issues of concern include lack of redress for torture victims and documented cases of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment of prisoners, including human rights defenders, in the UAE.
