Georgia

At a glance

Georgia has undergone significant reforms of law enforcement and the judiciary, as well as of the penitentiary system. The country has the lowest rate of corruption related crimes and has introduced reforms in anti-discrimination as well as torture prevention policies. Despite being clearly in the lead in the region in terms of effective implementation of human rights and democratization related reforms, Georgia is still facing issues with internally displaced people because of the occupation of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, which was followed by ethnic cleansing and war in 2008.
