There are frequent reports of attacks and arson attempts against property belonging to human rights defenders and journalists. Various United Nations human rights bodies and civil society organisations also noted the disproportionate use of force by the police and army against peaceful demonstrators, including against activists and journalists who are often prosecuted for doing their job. There have been cases of foreign correspondents being deported. The interim government has taken alarming measures, including some that contribute to impunity for military abuses during crowd control operations. The OMCT will continue to denounce these crimes and to call for the freedom and protection of human rights defenders and journalists in Bolivia.
